Endovascular coiling is a process in which a minimally invasive technique is used to block the blood flow into an aneurysm. Here without any incision in the skull, the brain aneurysm is treated. It has been one of the safest brain treatment since 1991.
In this treatment, a catheter is passed through the artery that contains the aneurysm. Artificial platinum coils are passed that prevents the blood from getting into it. This process is known as embolization.
The technique of coiling
First, a microcatheter is passed through the actual catheter. The platinum coil is coiled with the microcatheter. Slowly the microcatheter is moved towards the aneurysm. As soon as it is inserted in the aneurysm, an electric current is passed that separates the platinum coil from the catheter. The opening of the catheter gets sealed when the coil is released.
